Never underestimate ladies when they gather for coffee. In our case, the coffee conversation blossomed into this wonderful idea of doing good for women.
And the ‘tsunami’, as District Governor Dato’ Bindi Rajasegaran described it, was so strong that every man and woman we approached for help, couldn’t help being swept into the current.
On 14 February, we had a meeting with Yayasan Kelab-Kelab Rotary Malaysia (YKKRM) to partner with us and help issue tax-exemption receipts to sponsors and donors. The Chairman Past District Governor (PDG) Dr Paul Lee threw us a challenge. With RM100k, the Women Empowerment Funds may be established under Yayasan.
Serious adrenaline rush
When we informed our Governor, she encouraged us to formally ‘convert’ the Fellowship group Voice of Influence (VOI) chaired by PDG Kirenjit Kaur to a full-fledged District Action Group. PDG Siti Subaidah lent her creative touch by coining WOW – Women EmpOWerment. And on 22 February 2022 (22-02-2022) District Action Group for Women Empowerment (WOW) was established.

Since then, our Big Sister Susan Tu has mobilised everyone for the ‘accelerated’ fund-raising to hit the RM100k by 27 March 2022 (the date scheduled for the Women Empowerment Funds to be launched) and we have hit the ground running ever since, even today and by the looks of it, will continue with more speed

And on 27 March 2022 we have corporate sponsors – Microsoft Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad, Tuck Sun Logistics Sdn Bhd, Global Healthcare Sdn Bhd, Win (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and Cargoflow Sdn Bhd; and members from 18 Rotary Clubs – Bandar Utama, Bangsar, Bukit Angkasa, Central Damansara, Cheras, Damansara, Greentown, KLCC, KL DiRaja, Pantai Valley, Penang, Pudu, Seremban, Shah Alam, Sri Petaling, Teluk Intan, Titiwangsa and West Pahang joining the ‘walk of fame’ for contributing the first RM100k to the Women Empowerment Funds!
We managed to deliver our promise to Yayasan not with RM100k, but with RM102,500!!!
The next steps will be more exciting – to raise more funds, to draw out the guidelines for Rotary Clubs in Malaysia to tap on the funds and to help more women and children especially in education, health and poverty eradication

Thank you everyone who joined our Luncheon, held in conjunction with the International Women’s Day! Besides our Governor and also the Chairman of YKKRM, the Incoming District Governor Dr Krishna Kumar, his spouse Past Asst Governor (PAG) Pushpa and PDG Leslie Salehuddin were there too. We also had the team from the Entrepreneur and Islamic Management of Malaysiaβs Association (URUSKOP) present.
The guests were entertained by the Mah Meri Tribe from the Mah Meri Cultural Village, brought by RC Bukit Angkasa. True to the theme of celebrating women, PAG Shanti Jayaram from RC Melawati crooned I Am Woman – the women’s anthem that amplified the feel and role of women.
Thank you everyone for being there. And do contact us should you want to help in improving the lives of our families, our communities and our country by empowering women! Ask us how
