Chairman PDG Dato’ Dr. Low Teong’s Report

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Board of Directors of Yayasan Kelab-Kelab Rotary Malaysia (referred to as Yayasan in the rest of the Report). I am pleased to present you the Annual Report of the Yayasan for the year ended 30th June 2014. The first Annual Report for the year ended 30th June 2013 published last year was very well received.

For the year under review we had a reduction of about one hundred thousand ringgit in contributions. We raised a total of RM 202,540 and spent a total of RM 221,530 on projects. Payments by the two district and interest income were higher giving us a smaller surplus of RM 26,724 for the year.

A proposal was submitted for consideration at the District 3300 Conference to withdraw the RM20.00 subsidy paid by Malaysian Rotarians. An explanatory document was issued to explain the issues associated with the resolution. This document is reproduced in this Annual Report as it will benefit all Rotarians and Clubs from both districts. The resolution was eventually withdrawn. But for the record, the Board of Trustees, agreed that all Malaysian Clubs in District 3310 will continue to be a part of the Yayasan even if the resolution was adopted.

The review of the Memorandum and Association of the Yayasan was finalised. District 3310 was not in favour of any changed to the present structure of the Board of Trustees. Some changed were adopted for implementation but they do not involve any amendment to the document.

The three non Past Governors elected to the Board of Trustee completed their three year term of office. District 3310 renominate DGE Philip Chong. District 3300 nominated PP (now DGND) Dr. K. Manohur and PP Esther Tan. PP Esther Tan subsequently declined the nomination and another Rotarian will be nominated to replace her. On behalf of the Board of Trustees we thank PP Dr. Sen Gupta of RC Bangsar and PP Dato’ Ir Rizal Sardon of RC Kuala Lumpur DiRaja for their services to the Yayasan. The other areas the Yayasan Trustees looked at was the formation of an Image Building Committee, and the setting up of the Yayasan Reserve Fund Management Rules.

Clubs often complain of difficulty in securing grants from the Yayasan. This is no longer an issue as all the grant application procedure and approval had been made very simple, effective and fast. It is usually the clubs that are very poor in their paper work, and reporting requirements. Trustees often have to “chase” the clubs to get things moving.

On the other hand we are very pleased to partner the Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur in two very successful Support Grant projects. Every stage of the grant from submission of the application forms, sourcing of project partners, implementation of the projects, submission of the final reports and completion of all payments went on smoothly.

The Trustees of the Yayasan extend our congratulations to PDG Datuk Zainie Aucasa for being conferred the title by the Yang Di Pertua Negeri Sabah.

I have completed my term as the Chairman of the Yayasan on 30th June 2014 after serving for two and a half year. I had decided to retire six month early to ensure that PDG Lim Kok Beng and all future Chairman take office on 1 July.

During my tenure as the Chairman, working with my Trustees, officers and co-ordinators, I think we have taken the Yayasan one step higher. For all of you who have contributed to the success, I say thank you for your help. For those whom I have disappointed or offended I say “I am sorry”. I have great faith that my successor PDG Lim Kok Beng will take the Yayasan up another step over the next three years. All the best to you Kok Beng.
